About this website
This website allows you to participate in online academic research and get paid a small amount of money. It is run by Dr. Marianne Promberger, currently a researcher at King's College London, in collaboration with Dr. Stian Reimers, currently a researcher at University College London. You sign up to our panel and we notify you of new studies, in which you can then participate. Studies are submitted by collaborating researchers from different universities. Most of them are about how people think and make decisions. A typical study takes between 10 and 20 minutes to complete.
How do I sign up?
Step 1: Enter your email address in the field below and press the button.
You will receive a confirmation email, which will also include instructions how to remove your email address again if you change your mind.
Step 2: To complete your registration, click on the link in the confirmation email and answer three short questions about yourself.
Each person may only register once.
How does it work?
You give us your email address. When we have a study to run, we send you an email with the link to the study. If you want to participate, you click on the link and complete the study. When you have completed the study, we either pay you by PayPal or enter your email into a lottery for a voucher to spend on Amazon. Of course, you can remove your email address from our panel at any time.
How much will I be paid?
Payment is per study and depends on how long the study takes and of course on the researcher's budget. Studies typically last about 10-20 minutes and pay about £2 to £3 by PayPal, or you might enter a lottery for a £100 Amazon voucher. Each email will state how much the current study pays, and of course you can always decline to participate.
Are my answers confidential?
Your answers to the individual studies are completely anonymous and not linked to your email address. Each study is covered by policies of the research institution (university) at which it is run, and will state what that research institution is.
What about my email address?
The email address with which you register to our panel is kept separate from the individual studies. It is stored on a secure computer (not the website server). We do not pass it on to anyone else. If you want your email address to be removed from the panel, follow the instructions in your confirmation email or email us informally at contact@participate-in-research.org.uk and we will remove you from the panel. Since your email is stored offline, we do this manually, usually within 48 hours, and we send you a confirmation that you have been removed.
